The ALS Coal laboratory located in Richmond, Vancouver is a fully equipped, 1,580m2, single-level laboratory. It has the capability of performing a broad range of tests on coal and coke.
- Physical tests which are performed include: drop shatter, wet and/or dry tumble, full sizing, ARD, float and sink separation using organic liquids, and froth flotation.
- Analytical sample preparation is performed using jaw crushers and rotary sample dividers, while milling is performed using Holmes pulverisers and ring mills.
- Analytical tests include: Total Moisture, Proximate Analysis, Total Sulfur, Forms of Sulfur, Ultimate Analysis, Calorific Value, Relative Density, CSN/FSI, Gieseler, Dilatometer, Hardgrove Grindability, Ash Fusion, Light Transmittance/Oxidation, Ash Analysis and Trace Element Analysis.
- Carbonisation is performed using a moveable wall pilot-scale coke oven with an internal sample capacity of approximately 360 kg. Tests performed in the coke includes CRI and CSR, Micum, Irsid, JIS and ASTM drum tests, coke ARD and various laboratory analytical tests.
